The Christian Mystery and Its Celebration

Course Purpose:
The course intends to present the fundamentals of Christian (Catholic) faith and its celebration in the liturgy, laying the doctrinal, liturgical and sacramental foundations of the youth ministers’ understanding of his/her faith-life. It thus  aims at providing the Youth Minister essential knowledge and skills of the Christian faith and its relationship to the individual sacraments of the Church and their celebrations in the Liturgy

Learner Outcomes:
By the end of the course the student should:
·         Know the content of Christian faith and have discovered its importance in Christian life
·         Be able to present it young people in a way that makes sense to them
·         Know the meaning and significance of each of the sacraments and the liturgical celebrations for Christian life
·         Be able to relate it to the different liturgical celebrations with and for the young
·         Be able to prepare such celebrations with both creativity as well as faithfulness to the doctrine of the Church

Course Content
The Course is in Two Parts: The Christian faith & The Celebration of the Christian faith. In these two Parts, the following topics will be covered.

Part I: The Christian faith:
1.      Our Faith in God the Creator
2.      The Mystery of Christ
3.      The Mystery of the Human Person
4.      The Mystery of the Church
5.      The Blessed Virgin Mary and the Saints
6.      The Last Things
7.      Final Judgement and the End of Time

Part II: The Celebration of Christian Mystery
1.      Liturgy and Sacraments
2.      Baptism
3.      Confirmation
4.      Holy Eucharist
5.      Reconciliation
6.      Anointing of the Sick
7.      Holy Orders
8.      Holy Matrimony
